Homemade Crayons

Here’s how to make your own crayons by melting down stubs of old used crayons. It’s a great way to use up odds and ends of old crayons. You can use any shape of silicone mould – we used an Easter egg mould to make Easter crayons as prizes in a chocolate-free Easter egg hunt.

  • Remove any paper from around the crayons and break into small pieces.
  • Fill the silicone moulds with pieces of crayon.  You could make each crayon a single colour or mix up pieces of different colours to make rainbow crayons.
  • Place the mould onto a baking tray and put into an oven on a low heat (around 100 degrees C).
  • Allow the wax to melt for around 10-15 minutes or until fully melted.
  • Remove the tray from the oven then allow to cool.
  • Once the wax has fully set again, pop the homemade crayons out of the mould.
